Lake Nojiri

In the heart of the Myoko Valley is Lake Nojiri. This pleasant lake also has small island where you can explore by boat. Lake Nojiri is especially famous in Japan because of a discovery of mammoth bones, with a museum nearby.

Togakushi Shrine

Known for its enormous cryptomeria trees that line the path to the shrine, the area actually has three separate shrine areas you can explore. The shrine is also famous for a special type of traditional dancing.

Imori Pond

Imori pond is a protected wetlands area in the Ikenotaira area. Nature walks provide “forest therapy”. It’s a popular place to view Myoko’s wild flowers or bird watching.

Akakura Gondola

Located across the street from the Silverhorn, the Gondola gives you a chance to see the Myoko Kogen Valley, all the way to the Sea of Japan. Especially popular for the autumn leaf season.

Fireworks at Lake Nojiri

During the middle of July you can catch the firework festival on the lake front. A display of about 2,000 fireworks are launched from motorboats on the water.

Arai Street Festival

During the summer Arai holds its largest festival of the year. The local community of 4,000 people will participate. You can enjoy the festival atmosphere as well as see traditional culture.

Naena Falls

One of Myoko’s most popular attractions, Naena waters is among the top 100 must see waterfalls in Japan. Nicknamed the ‘Earthquake’ waterfall for the sound that reverberates from the 55 meter cliffs into the surrounding forest.

Illumination

During the summer months nearby is the Appalusion night illumination. The light display is impressively the largest in the world! Spread over a wide area, which takes over an hour and a half to see everything.
